CAR PARKING

  • School zone times have been standardised in Queensland to help motorists remember when to slow down. The standard operating times for most school zones in Queensland are 7:30–9am and 2–4pm.
  • School zones are areas around schools where, during certain times, reduced speed limits apply. Speed limits and drop-off, pick-up and parking rules exist to keep children, parents and carers safe and to minimise speed and traffic jams around schools.

SUPERVISED CROSSING

There are two School Crossing Supervisors on duty each morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and each afternoon from 2:40 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. to assist children and parents across the crossings.

Parents and caregivers are reminded to set a positive example by always using the designated crossings. While you may be able to avoid a speeding car, a child who follows your lead may not be as fortunate. Let’s all work together to keep our students safe.

BUSES

Rockhampton public bus services are operated by Kinetic on behalf of the Queensland Government and are connected to the Translink network. To plan a journey, use the Translink journey planner or visit the Translink website. You can find printable timetables on the Translink websitePaper tickets can be purchased onboard a Rockhampton or Yeppoon bus service using cash. Please assist the driver by having the correct fare or small change ready.

BICYCLES & SCOOTERS

Children riding bicycles or scooters to school must:

  • Walk their bicycles or scooters while on school grounds.

  • Take care when entering the roadway from the school, mounting their bicycle or scooter only once they are outside the school gate.

  • Leave their bicycles or scooters in the designated bike racks and not return to them until it is time to go home. These must be secured with a suitable chain and lock.

  • Walk their bicycles or scooters along the pedestrian paths at the front and back of the school during busy times (before and after school) until it is safe to ride on the road.

Additional guidelines:

  • The bike racks are out of bounds to children who do not have bicycles or scooters stored there.

  • Bicycles and scooters must not be borrowed or lent under any circumstances.

  • Children must not play or loiter in or around the bike rack area.

  • All children must wear a properly fitted bicycle safety helmet at all times when riding.

ON THE WAY TO AND FROM SCHOOL

Students are expected to:

  • Travel to and from school by the most direct route, without stopping or loitering at shops or other places.

  • Be courteous and respectful to their friends, other students, adults, and all members of the community.

  • Look after and support younger students — bullying or harassment will not be tolerated.

  • Avoid talking to strangers.

  • Follow all road and traffic safety rules.

  • Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the high standards and positive reputation of Mount Archer State School.
