Going to School - Every Day Matters

By law, children must go to school unless there is a valid reason.

If your child misses school and you do not tell us why, we are required to follow up. We will send letters asking you to explain your child's absence. This is something all schools must do.

If Your Child Is Absent

Please let the school know if your child is away.

You can:

  • Send a written note to the teacher
    OR
  • Call the Student Absence Line on 49235 222 (available 24 hours a day)

When you contact us, please tell us:

  • Your child's full name
  • Their class
  • The reason they are away
  • The date(s) of the absence
  • Your name (the parent or carer calling)

If you write a note, please sign it and give it to the teacher on the day your child returns.

Explaining absences helps us keep all students safe and helps stop truancy (when students skip school without permission).

If Your Child Will Be Away for a Long Time

If your child will be away for more than a few days, please call the school. We can give your child schoolwork to do at home while they are away.

The Law About School Attendance

The Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 says:

  • All children of school age must be enrolled at a school.
  • Children must attend school every school day unless there is a reasonable excuse.
