In the week leading to ANZAC Day, students in year six interviewed a number of returned servicemen. The interviews covered many topics including how the men were recruited, their divisions and rank, years of service, the conflict in which they served and experiences. Many of the servicemen bought artifacts such as ration packs and supplies to show the students.
This project was part of the English and History unit the classes were studying. Prior to the interviews the students prepared questions and practiced their interviewing skills.
WIN TV compiled a news story about this project, which was aired as the 'School of the Week' story the night before ANZAC Day.
The year six students participating in the ANZAC march in town were pleased to identify some of the men that they had had the opportunity to interview and get to know better.
